世界経済が混迷する今、より厳しくなる大卒者への社会のニーズに応えて、常に進化する英文学科でありたい、そのためのカリキュラム改革です。
2010年度からの新カリキュラムでは、たとえば、これまで1年次必修であった「Reading/Writing & Discussion」
という英文資料を読んで英語でディスカッションするという科目を、2年次の概論科目と合併させ内容をより凝縮し、ディスカッションを経て英語でプレゼンを行う必修科目「英語プレゼンテーション：実践」や、プレゼン内容をレポートに書くための「アカデミック・エッセイ・ライティングII・III」へと変更します。これは、3年次後期から卒業論文・プロジェクトを段階的に完成させていくための英語力と専門基礎知識を入学時から体系的に身につけていくためです。
「卒業論文セミナー」では、英語で読み、聞き、議論し、書くための4年間の学びの集大成ができるように、まず1年次から週2回の「ライティングのための英文法Ｉ,Ⅱ」でしっかりと実践英文法を学び直します。と同時に、一連の「英文資料読解」では、アカデミックな英文読解力を、精読→多読→クリティカル・リーディングといったプロセスで身につけていきます。「大学生のためのリサーチスキル」「大学生のためのリスニングスキル」では、実際に図書館やIT使用法、英語でのノートの取り方、論文サマリーの書き方などを学びながら、専門科目の入門的内容にふれられるようにカリキュラム上、工夫されています。このような低学年次の必修科目の多くは、7クラス／3レベル編成で、外国人教員と日本人教員による少人数授業です。
上級学年では、できるだけ、3コース「グローバル・スタディーズコース」「言語コミュニケーションコース」「英米文学・文化コース」の専門教育科目を満遍なく履修することで、多角的なものの見方、批判的論理能力を養い、問題解決力や行動力アップへと繋げる経験を積み重ねていってください。
生涯、英語を用いて、仲間と新しいことに生き生きと挑戦し学び続けるための方法を、本学英文学科の4年間でしっかりと身につけて欲しいと願っています。

New Curriculum
From 2010, the English Department will begin the introduction of a new curriculum designed to build effective English language skills and to prepare our students for the challenges of academic study within the English Department.
The first year curriculum is based around a range of courses that aim to develop the full range of skills required for academic study of English and through English.

•Intensive Reading
•Extensive Reading
•Critical Reading
•Academic Listening Skills
•Academic Research Skills
•English Pronunciation
The new curriculum provides an integrated programme of learner development. In the second year, students can take their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills to a higher level through classes that focus on Advanced Academic Writing, Research Presentation and Public Speaking. Second year students are also introduced to academic study of the core disciplines within the English Department: Literature and Cultural Studies, Language Studies and Global Studies.
In third and fourth year classes, students have opportunities to specialize further in their chosen area of research. As well as taking advanced classes in their area, students participate in research seminars where they will make extensive use of the academic skills acquired in first and second year classes. The ultimate test of each student in the English Department is the requirement to produce a substantial piece of academic writing in English — the graduation thesis.
