Hi, my name is Kathy Okumura, and I teach interpreting as part of the Interpreting and Translation Program in the English Department. My fields of study are intercultural communication competence and internationalization of education, as well as interpreting theory and its application to the resolution of communication issues. I am also interested in gender studies. My goal is to ensure that my students graduate from Kobe College with the skills they need to succeed professionally and personally. In my classes I try to share the enjoyment and sense of achievement to be gained by communicating well, through developing the skills required to interpret. I look forward to talking and meeting with many of you.

研究室紹介

My goal is to ensure that my students leave Kobe College equipped with the communication skills that will be so important for them in many areas of life after graduation. This can be achieved not only through the study of interpreting, which helps to develop active listening, analytical, and linguistic skills, but also through research into interpreting and communication-related fields. I am interested in what inhibits communication and what we can do to communicate more effectively. This applies not only to intercultural communication but also to communication in one's mother tongue. I am also interested in promoting acceptance of diversity - in particular, how to use intercultural contact opportunities to prevent the formation of prejudice toward different groups in society. I look forward to working with students on a wide range of communication-related topics, and exploring this field together.
