The Global Studies Masters Course

The new Global Studies Course in the Kobe College Graduate School has been designed to meet the demand from Japanese society and Japanese business for young people who are fully equipped to perform at a high level on the global stage. The course aims to develop young women who have highly developed leadership, planning and analytic skills together with a deep understanding of modern global society. All classes are delivered in English and students are expected to develop the kind of practical English language skills that are so vital in modern global settings. Graduates of this course will be able to apply for positions with international organizations and for positions with globally-focused voluntary sector organizations and businesses.

Three Essential Components of the Course

  1. Development of Practical Skills
  2. Acquisition of Global Knowledge
  3. Attainment of International Experience

CURRICULUM

During their two years of study all students will complete a project that involves both the attainment of practical experience and the development of deep knowledge at an international level. For many students, the completion of their project will involve overseas internships, volunteer work, or research. All students will also have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of other classes and programs offered by the Graduate School.

Global Studies Project I and II

This course will help students develop research projects through internships in international institutions and fieldwork research. Students will research about specific global issues and receive guidance to create a written work or visual project.

Global Society and Change

This program is designed to outline the practical skills involved in both identifying societal issues worldwide and in developing potential methods for dealing with these issues.

Global Business and Entrepreneurship

This course focuses on the practical skills necessary for in international business settings, including business leadership, work practices, and marketing from a global perspective.

Advanced Studies in Global Communication

This course will examine the global communications industry, the historical development of communications and the prospects for communication change.

Advanced Studies in Global Society

This course intends to further train the student for a specific regional or national focus on a particular migration issue in which the feminization of migration is to be a considered.

Global Leadership Skills

This program helps students to identify appropriate leadership behaviors and to understand how to apply those skills in team and group work settings. It will provide guidelines for working as part of multicultural and international teams.

Global Geopolitical Analysis

This program trains students to use modern data analysis techniques to make sense of global trends and to identify emerging problems and potential solutions.

Advanced Studies in Global Economy

The focus of this course is the historical developments, current trends and future prospects of the global economy.

Advanced Studies in International Relations

In this class the focus is on conflict resolution and peace studies. Students will examine case studies of successful conflict negotiations and post-conflict reconstruction.
